When I can help
- Failing or failed hard drives: clicking, not detected, freezing, or throwing errors
- Accidental deletion: files or folders gone and not in the Recycle Bin
- A computer that won’t boot: your documents, photos, and work files are often still on the drive
- Older drives and machines: pulling files off an old PC before it’s retired
What to do right now
- Stop using the computer or drive. Every minute of use can overwrite what’s recoverable.
- Don’t run free recovery tools or “fix disk” utilities on a malfunctioning drive.
- If you do try a recovery tool, never install it on the affected drive or save recovered files back to it. Deleted files stay on the drive only until something new is written over them, so the tool and everything it recovers have to go on a different device, such as a second drive or an external USB drive. Writing to the same drive can permanently erase the very files you’re trying to get back.
- Call before you drop it off, so we can talk through what happened.

- I recover what can be recovered and put it on a new drive or your replacement computer.
Honest about the limits
Some drives are beyond recovery. When that’s the case, I’ll say so clearly before you pay for unnecessary work. Your files stay private; I don’t go through them beyond what the recovery needs.
Make sure it doesn’t happen twice
Once your files are back, I can set up a simple automatic backup so the next failure is an inconvenience, not a loss.
